Take Up Your Cross

Teaching by Billie Johnson, Oct. 30, 2009 at DLTC

When you hear the words of Jesus: "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matt 16:24, what do you think of when we read that?  Do you think of the cross that Jesus died upon; or the things that we are to not do because he is our savior?

Let’s examine this further.First let’s look at what it doesn’t mean.  It is not that burden that you feel you are carrying for God.  It is not that sickness that you struggle with.  It is not that person who you always have fights with.  It is not the things in your life that you can’t explain but don’t like.  Those are not the cross that you carry in your life.

Your Voice

Your voice

Teaching at DLTC on September 19,2009 by Billie Johnson

We’ve learned from Don 2 about words that we should not speak and last week Don lead us in a prayer of words that are very appropriate for us to speak. So tonight I want to talk about our voice.  Your voice is an instrument, an extension of you; how you let others know what is going on with you or how to know what others are doing. The dictionary says that ‘voice’ is a sound produced by the lungs and larynx (the vocal cords) in humans.  ‘Voice’ in the Greek is phone pronounced fo-na and its meaning is: sound, noise, or to be noised abroad.  So it is something we hear with our ears.  It is interesting that our word telephone is similar. It probably was taken from that Greek word.

We wait for a baby to begin speaking.  One of the first words that she says is “MaMa or DaDa.”  Then as she continues to grow and add to her vocabulary the word NO is used most frequently especially when the child is around 2 years of age.  That is the age that he begins to have a personality, to express likes and dislikes.

A Piece of Possibility

A PIECE OF POSSIBLITY

By Billie Johnson at JGLM International Conference

in Denver, June 19, 2009

As I was talking with the Lord the other day he said, “Yes, you hear those things that are from the Almighty.  Your mind can contain the secrets that have been hidden from the ages.  You know the mind of Christ.  It is possible!  You have only to listen and put pen to paper.”  So I sat up in bed, took pen in hand and wrote.  That is the way I communicate best with our sweet Lord.  We know that all things are possible for us through Jesus Christ. At this June 2009 conference of JGLM we are looking at where we have been and where we are going.  We have traveled many different routes to find John G. Lake Ministries but we all believe this message to be Biblical and sound. Don and I Come from a main line denominational  background.  We were members of First Christian Church and or Baptist Churches most of our lives.  We were searching for more of God.  We received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in a Christian church that had started to move in that direction.  But that church didn’t continue to move into power.  They told us we’ll get there, we’ll do that soon -- but the direction of the church was to stay in the same old pattern.

We continue to seek more light from the scriptures.  We seek to be enlightened – to have more light more illumination, to see more clearly!  The way to do that is to spend more time in the Word – that is where the light is.  Jesus said he was from above.  Light comes to you from above.  You sit a candle upon a stand where the light grows brighter and the shadows are less.  The light causes the darkness to recede.  You see as you get more light there is less darkness – that includes your mind as well as your eyes!  The dark recesses are opened up so they are dark no longer.  They are flooded with light.  Where light is darkness flees.

Gifts in Romans 12:6-11

Teaching at DLTCBy Billie Johnson,

June 13, 2009

We’ve had teaching recently on the gifts in 1 Corinthians but tonight I’d like to touch more on the gifts mentioned in Romans 12.  The Roman Road is narrow but it is the way of life! These are sometimes called the motivational gifts.  They are what motivates us; that part in our makeup that makes us want to do something.  We could say they are the spirits behind our behavior and hopefully the Holy Spirit is in charge.  We know they are considered manifestations of the Holy Spirit within us.  He uses these gifts to grow up the fruit of the Holy Spirit in us as well.  NKJ “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, [let us use them]: if prophecy, [let us] [prophesy] in proportion to our faith; or ministry, [let us use it] in [our] ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Let’s take this piece by piece or gift by gift.  We all have gifts talents or qualities and they are different in each one of us.  The difference is because of the grace – the special gift God given to each of us.  We are to use them according to his grace, his favor.  Verse 6: Prophecy is to be done with faith – that part of the grace that God gives is a portion, a part of what he has given.  Prophecy is to come out of the impulse of God in and thru us. It does take faith to step out and prophesy to someone.  You have to ignore the thoughts of:  what if it doesn’t happen; what if he doesn’t receive it; what if I’m wrong – all of these thoughts have to be dismissed and you just move ahead to what the Holy Spirit is prompting within your mind.  You open your mouth and say those things that encourage, exhort and console others.  I’ve heard some say that those who move in prophecy see things black and white.  There is no middle ground; it has to be right or wrong.  I sometimes see myself as that.

What Did Jesus Say

What Did Jesus Say About  Hell?

Teaching at DLTC

by Billie Johnson, May 9, 2009

We are going to look at a subject that is not taught much in churches. We need to know what the Bible says as there are many erroneous ways of thinking prevalent today.  Thank you, Shirley for giving me this book by Gordon Lindsay on The Life & Teachings of Christ; Volume 2 Christ Teaches His apostles.  It has helped me think more clearly about death.  Most people are interested in what happens after we die.  Some questions we ponder:  are the dead conscious?  If they are, under what conditions do they exist?  Many people believe in life beyond the grave (immortality) -- but there are different opinions about what happens.  The Bible is the only authority  which tells us the truth about life after death.
